Tourist can enjoy White river rafting in Uttarakhand’s Harsil very soon

Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has announced the opening of white water rafting on the Bhagirathi River in Harsil Valley, near Uttarkashi. Till now, the valley has been known for its significance in the Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage, and for its scenic trekking routes, which will now add another feather in its cap to boost tourism.

If reports are to go by, this initiative will be part of the Vibrant Village scheme. As of now, the UTDB has identified three river rafting destinations, including the stretch between Jangla & Jhala bridges on Bhagirathi.

Referring to this, Minister of Tourism Satpal Maharaj, while making the announcement added that both pilgrims and adventure seekers will now be able to experience the joy of river rafting on Bhagirathi River near Harsil, which will also open new avenues of tourism-related employment for local youth as well.

Harsil is located around 30 km from the town of Uttarkashi, and is easily accessible by road. It is believed that the growth of a competitive rafting industry in Harsil Valley, will likely lure more visitors from across the country.

To ensure the safety of all participants in river rafting activities, UTDB has implemented mandatory registration for companies.
